LA VALLEE DES SINGES / MONKEY VALLEY at Romagne is only 4 miles away.
It was set up in 1998, in response to the extinction threats facing some species and to help protect primates. Since it opened, Monkey Valley has seen many births, including 9 baby gorillas contributing to the wider ecological and environmental effort. Many of the 350 primates who live here can roam within 15 hectares of natural wooded park area often travelling freely through the trees and along ropes strung between them. Some are enclosed on large islands which allows them to move around as they please.
As they are primates, they're full of personality so are incredibly entertaining to watch. You can also discover what goes on behind the scenes at the Valley as various exhibits show you what happens when a new monkey arrives and you can watch a film about the birth of Kwanza - one of the 5 baby gorillas born at Monkey Valley. There is a mini-farm too, where children can pet goats and sheep plus games and snack areas.

It's lovely to be able to get close to the animals without bars in the way with them scampering around as you walk along the paths. All the photographs above were taken by us so you can see how close you can get to the animals.
You can discover the largest concentration of chimpanzees in Europe and the largest gorilla colony in France. In 2011 a group of bonobos (the only group of bonobos in France) was introduced to the park and billed under the slogan ‘Make Love not War’ - watching them at feeding time it’s easy to see why. |
